Garden Harvests - July 5, 2012

Please visit and like my new facebook page Georgia Home Garden.

We finally received some rain in the last few days, and I am so thankful for it.  The tomatoes are coming in fast and furious now, and so are the eggplants.  We have been eating a lot of the tomatoes on sandwiches, especially BLT's.  My wife and I have really taken a liking to tomatoes now, we never ate them until a few weeks ago.  They do taste better than what I remember as a kid.  I am finding it hard to keep up and will probably try making some home made tomato sauce this week.

Here are some tomatoes fully ripe on the kitchen counter.

A nice batch of tomatoes with an eggplant and bell pepper

Last of the squash here with a few more eggplants and more tomatoes

Whoa...you're way ahead of me! My summer squash are just now coming on strong, I've only picked 3 tomatoes, and my peppers are still in the baby stage.

I am glad you are enjoying tomatoes. If you decide to can, try homemade salsa, too. It's one of the best things going, in my opinion.

I am sorry, I forgot to add, that I am *really* glad you got rain. I hope you get a little more. I know y'all are still really dry.

You're making my mouth water looking at your tomatoes. My tomatoes are in the flowering stage, and I have a few tomatoes that have formed. Nothing to harvest yet. I have picked a few summer squash.

Wow! So glad that you got some rain finally. I hope there is more to follow soon. Beautiful tomatoes, peppers, squash and eggplant!! If they become too overwhelming, ripe tomatoes can be frozen whole and saved up until you have enough to make sauce or salsa.

Beautiful vegetables. I'm glad you finally got rain. We've gotten some heavy downpours in our area but not over our house! Oh well...

Granny - I guess my tomatoes finally caught up with yours thanks to the Georgia heat. :) My peppers are coming along slow too.

Lisa - Thanks Lisa, we are excited about our harvest and have been enjoying the fresh tomatoes.

Cristy - Homemade salsa is one of my favorites too. Here is a post from last year about my quest on getting homemade salsa. http://georgiahomegarden.blogspot.com/2011/06/i-said-i-want-salsa.html

Also, thanks on the rain, we got another storm last night. This one was really bad and actually provided a lot of rain. Bad news is lightning hit near my house and fried some phone lines in my house. Always something. Last night's storm was the best we had all summer.

rmgales - I am sorry to tease you with my harvest, hopefully yours will be great. My squash are over and done with.

Jenny - Congrats on the eggplant, we have been eating it like crazy and giving it away. I can't wait to see your tomato harvest. I know it is going to be massive.

Rachel - Thanks, we so needed that rain. As I type now, I have fresh tomato sauce simmering on the stove. I have an upcoming post with credit to you. You will see what it is.

Bernadine - So sorry the rain missed you, I swear that was us for so long. I could use so much more and I hope you get some too.
