Saying Goodbye...So Long to my Georgia Home Garden

Please visit and like my new facebook page Georgia Home Garden.

I haven't posted much since mid July and I have been rather silent about what is going on in my life.  I thought about the last few months today and I am ready to share what is happening.  I have some good news and some bad news.

The bad news first...
I am saying goodbye to my Georgia Home Garden and my blog for a short while.  We have purchased a new house and that is what has been taking up my time.  My wife always joked that we would never move and that I would die in our house.  We have lived there since 2001, almost 12 years, and it is true that I have touched every square inch of it.  I have completely remodeled it,  and I know every nook and cranny of that little ranch.  Both of my children came home to that house and I that is where I discovered my passion for gardening.  I was 23 when I bought that house and now I am turning 35 in just a few short weeks.  It is absolutely amazing what you can accomplish and what can change in 12 years.  I never imagined that I would move anytime soon, but once the second baby came in April in combination with record low interest rates, I knew if I was ever going to move now was the time.  The funny thing is almost every single person that we told we were moving, the first thing they would say, "OH NO, What about your garden!?!"  I would just smile and say, "I know, I know."  It seems like right as we put the finishing touches on the house before the baby came, now we are leaving it.  That is life.

Now the good news...
While I am saying goodbye to my original Georgia Home Garden, I am proud to announce that there will be a Georgia Home Garden 2.0.  Our new house is wonderful, my yard is almost twice the size of my old house.  It is .40 of an acre, and it is a corner lot so I have lots of room.  The previous owner really took care of it and the landscaping is decent.  My mind is running wild with all the landscaping projects, trees to be planted, gardens to build, and on and on and on.  It will take me years to implement my vision for this new house.  I can't wait to start sharing this new chapter in my gardening life as it unfolds.

For the future...
We still own Georgia Home Garden 1.0, and we hope it will sell soon.  The garden is still there and I go by there most days to check on things and to pick whatever is ready.  I have tried to maintain it, but I only have so much time and it is looking rough these days.  I won't be posting frequently, but once we get the old house sold you better get ready because I have a lot of plans to blog about.  I know this post was long winded, but I wanted to share with my gardening bloggers.

Congratulations! I hope you sell your old house soon. Are you still going to be blogging? Or are you moving on to a new chapter in your life that doesn't include that? I understand, if that is the case, I am just interested to know.

Congratulations on your new home! I wish you well on your new adventure. It must be difficult to leave your first home and garden especially since you put so much time and effort into improvements. Now new and exciting challenges lay ahead.

Cristy - Thanks so much, we sure hope we sell it soon too. Yes, I will still be blogging, but not that frequently until the other house sells and I can get a handle on things. I probably won't have near the garden that I had at my old house for a few years because my attention will be focused on other projects in the new house. I will definitely have some sort of garden for next year.

Rachel - Thank you, I will say that I have been torn because I know it is the right thing to do, but on the other hand I LOVE LOVE LOVE my old house. I am excited about making the new house my own.

Jenny - Thank you so much, and I have seen your harvests since I have been gone. Very impressive how much your garden has produced.

What a wonderful adventure lies ahead of you! Don't even look back, as the challenge to come will bring you so much pride and pleasure. Best of luck in your new home, and I'm sure you'll soon be busy blogging about your brand new killer garden, and make us all jealous!

At first I was nervous because I thought you were going to be ending your blog or moving to... let's say... Arizona! I'm so glad you're still going to be in Georgia. After all, your garden has been a huge inspiration to me. I wish you the very best in moving into your new home, selling your current home and getting your family settled. See you when you start blogging again. Bye for now. Bernadine

Glad to know that you will keep blogging. But don't worry about the blog. I think your readers will be here when you are able to communicate. I know I will. :)

I know what it's like to move to a new home and to leave your garden behind. We recently purchased a new house on an acre lot with a pool and LOTS of garden space. I have millions of designs for beds and vegetable garden space so it will be nice to read more about your new adventure. I started blogging about my garden again this year but my blog doesn't compare to your blog. I have really enjoyed reading all of your posts (I recently found your blog so I've been reading all of the older posts) and hope to see more soon. I hope that you will take a minute to check out my blog in the future. You can find it at http://thehomevegetablegardener.wordpress.com

Good luck

Granny - I can hardly imagine making anyone jealous of my little old gardens. I am only trying to have 1/10th of the garden that you have. :) I am excited to build Georgia Home Garden 2.0

Bernadine - Thanks for always being so kind, but I could not imagine leaving Georgia. I love our state and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I am not sure what the rest of the country thinks of Georgia now that Here Comes Honey Boo Boo comes on TLC, and frankly I don't care. And yes I am a fan of the show just for the laughs I get watching it.

Cristy - Thanks Cristy, I have truly missed blogging on a regular basis.

Chris - Thanks for following my blog and for the compliments. I can't take credit for it, most of my ideas on my blog have come from things I have seen on others. It is good to hear from another Georgian like myself and I will be sure to check yours out too.
