Garden Harvests - August 5, 2013

Please visit and like my new facebook page Georgia Home Garden.

This past week was exciting because I harvested my first potatoes that I have ever grown.  I have always wanted to grow them, but this year I actually planted some Kennebec white potatoes in my coca cola cooler planter box.  I harvested about 7 pounds and the potatoes were decent size.

We have eaten them all week, and they taste so good.  I made home made french fries, potato chips, and garlic mash potatoes.  I am considering replanting them for a fall harvest.

Freshly dug potatoes

Almost 7 lbs

Here they are all clean and ready to go.

Nice pepper harvest this week too.

A few more tomatoes

Beautiful potatoes and peppers! They taste so much better when they're young just out of ground!

Will you ever have a potato-less garden ever again, now that you've tasted how delicious home grown ones are? Of course, you'll have to try other varieties now...a red, a gold, a blue ;-)

I was just thinking of you today as I looked at my potato patch and saw the Kennebec foliage was dying back. So glad to see you had good results with your Coca Cola cooler planting. Your peppers and tomatoes look good too.

Jenny - You are right, those were some tasty potatoes.

Granny - I think you are right about that, and I do want to plant a red variety.

Rachel - Thanks, that is kind of you to say. I hope you are having good results with your chickens.

I planted some "first Potatoes" a couple of years ago, that didn't do well , so you can see you did better than me. I'm still trying to get better and think of you often. Love ya! Ginny

Endah,

Thanks for the comment on the potatoes. It is good to hear from someone outside of the United States. This was my first year growing potatoes and I am pleased with the results.
