Emory Eye Center and Retinal Detachment Information

Please visit and like my new facebook page Georgia Home Garden.

I wanted to post some information about my condition. My surgery and treatment has been through the Emory Eye Center and tonight I was checking out their website.

I have become quite an expert of the eye, and I will admit I am a geek when it comes to information. However, I still want to share this information because it might help save someones vision in the future.

I can't say enough about the level of care that the Emory Eye Center has given me.  I am thankful and fortunate that I only live a few hours from it.

This link shows how retinal tears form, which can lead to detachment as in my case.
This link is a computer animation of what I experienced, retinal detachment.

HI Kris, I hope your eye is 100% back to normal. What a scary thing to have happen. I've not been blogging for quite sometime and recently noticed that you left such a nice comment about the chicken shed we built. Our family and chickens are doing great. Such blessings. I hope all is well in your new home, too.
A friend from work gave me some Asian String Bean seeds. I call them Magic Seeds. These have produced the most incredible bounty. Beyond words. I did not fertilize, spray... nothing. They were delicious and prolific. You would love them. I would love to send you some. As for my husbands carpentry skills, I am very thankful he knows how to do this stuff. He's self taught and enjoys building in intervals. He did pour the concrete himself. Did you ever get yours poured?
Take care. Bernadine

It is good to hear from you. Yes, this situation with my eye has been an adventure to say the least. I still have sub retinal fluid, so my vision is distorted and wavy. I am thankful just to be able to see at all, and if this fluid goes away I should be back to normal. I go back to Emory in December for a followup.

Believe it or not we have been in our new house about 15 months now, and time sure does fly by. Those Asian string beans sound pretty interesting. Did you have to grow them on a trellis or are they the bush type? Maybe I can get in touch with you in the Spring and get some, I will send you my contact info.

I had to put my shed expansion project on the back burner, but I have plenty of other projects around here to keep me busy. I have been focused on landscaping; planting trees, shrubs, etc. My garden this year was pretty much a bust with all the rain we got. I hope to have something better next year.

I am glad to hear ya'll are doing well and you are enjoying the chickens. As you can tell, my blogging has dropped off quite a bit too. It is just so hard to find the time and effort to put into it lately. I have been surprised by the amount of work two kids are instead of one. I do miss hearing from my fellow bloggers and it seems I am not the only one that isn't blogging as much.

Take care.

Kris, you have been in my thoughts. I hope you are feeling better and your eyes are recovering well from their surgeries.

Rachel, thank you so much for checking on me and my eye situation. I am so sorry I have been slow in responding to you. Life has just gotten away from me lately and it’s no excuse, but I appreciate you asking.

As for my eyes, it turns out I had a detached retina in my right eye too and they did laser surgery to prevent it from spreading. That is all fine for now, but my left eye still has sub-retinal fluid. At this point the doctors tell me it should go away, but can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months. I am able to drive and function, but my left eye the vision is very poor since it is looking through fluid. My next appointment is in a few weeks and they are going to monitor the fluid to see if any has absorbed.

Your new website is awesome and I love the name Grow a Good life. Your website layout and color palette is very well thought out and professional looking. I build software applications for a living and I can tell you pay close attention to detail, fonts, spacing etc. I will try to stay in touch more often.

God bless.
