Bad Storm - April 25th

Please visit and like my new facebook page Georgia Home Garden.

I think rain is a gardener's best friend and his worst nightmare.  Today around 6:45 pm, we had a really bad thunderstorm at my house that dumped two inches of rain in less than forty five minutes.  No pictures to post, but my broccoli plants were completely blown over, my snow peas are leaning heavily now, and half my corn was blown over.  After the storm passed, I tried to set everything up right the best I could.  I should be careful what I wish for because I have been complaining about the unseasonably hot weather and lack of rain.  Hopefully everything will right themselves and the weather will cool off from the rain.

We had rain followed by cold wind today. I've had broccoli plants blown flat before, they have always eventually righted themselves. Once or twice I've had to hill up a bit of soil around their stems to help them along, they didn't mind it at all. Even corn usually manages to grow fine after being set upright. Mother Nature isn't being kind to our gardens this spring.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I did with the broccoli and the corn. The snow peas however completely bent over. They were over a foot taller than my trellis, which was nothing more than plastic fencing between two posts. Many of the stems bent badly at the trellis line, and now they are leaning over. I hope this doesn't affect their output.

Thanks for the comment on my blog, Kris. I would try and grow vegetables if I had more space. As it is, I'm content with some herbs, a tomato plant or two and a bowl with lettuce.

There is a storm on its way again for this evening. Rain is welcome; wind not so much.

Yeah I am well aware of the storms tonight, and I am praying for the best. They are issuing tornado warnings like crazy right now. Thanks.
