Garden Harvests - April 30, 2012

Please visit and like my new facebook page Georgia Home Garden.

It has been almost a week since I have posted and I have a pretty good reason.  I have been working on a project I have code named "Hell Week".  The project is almost complete and I will be posting about it in a few days.  My body is so tired I don't know what I was thinking.

On a separate note, I harvested the first yellow squash of the season, a good batch of lettuce, and a small batch of spinach.  Everything is going pretty good in the garden but we seriously lack rain.  It is so dry right now because we haven't had a drop in three and a half weeks.  There is no rain forecasted anytime soon so looks like the water bill will be high this month.

First squash of the season
They are a little warty because I left them on the plant too long

Huge basket of lettuce.
This was chopped up and we will be eating salads all week.

A little spinach, about 5 oz.
This was made into a hot cheesy spinach dip.

Love it! I only planted squashes in seedling cups this weekend so at long way before harvest :)

Squash already! Wow. I have a little baby female on the plant. Hoping for some squash soon.

I am sorry about your drought. We are seriously dry, too. It's been over 2 weeks since it rained here and there is none on the forecast for the next 7 days. This in an area that it usually rains every afternoon. SIGH. Please Lord send us garden rain. (Garden rain means not a torrential flooding.)

Jenny - Thanks, I have planted 8 more plants hoping to have enough left over for my daughter to sell at her vegetable stand.

Cristy - I know what you mean, it is either all or nothing. Not a drop or flooding every day for a month. I would like just a nice steady rain for about 8 hours, give me that once a week and I will be happy. Don't you just hear God laughing at me right now. :)

I sure hope so Jenny, but last year I had a really bad squash bug problem so I am trying to get as much as I can before they take over.

Great looking harvest! I hope that your draught breaks soon. Rain is one thing I can't complain about. Draught is the one thing that Mother Nature hasn't theown at me...yet.

Thanks Ed, I sure hope it does too. We hit 94 yesterday and that broke the 40 year old record of 90. The heat has been crazy in the last few years. Either that or I just don't tolerate as much now that I am getting older.
